Earth’s Gift to Humans
In 2020, out of great love, the Earth aided by human beings, allowed a virus to infect us with love, consciousness, and awareness. How did we react?
A year ago, we celebrated Earth Day’s 50th anniversary. Instead of the planned grand outdoor events, the COVID-19 pandemic limited the celebrations to virtual events only. Fortunately, an unexpected visitor brought us an amazing surprise gift. Mother Earth honored us with her presence by joining the celebration. She opened this perfectly wrapped gift for all the world to see. Did you experience this unveiling?
For decades, we have debated about the risks and dangers of climate change and carbon emissions. Humans have researched and challenged theories, projections, and scientific data and evidence. In the last years, extreme natural disasters, such as category 5 hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, have affected our planet. Yet we failed to take action to mitigate climate change. Why? We mention many logical reasons: economics, development, industrialization, governments, wealth concept, scarcity beliefs and so much more. However, the main reason is that TODAY humanity was not in any imminent danger. In addition, our systems are focused on short-term rather than long-term issues. Many have sounded the panic button of the price of inaction. However, basic human lifestyle, enterprise, and economy have reigned supreme over the sustainability of our planet.
So, in 2020, out of great love, the Earth aided by human beings, allowed a virus to infect us with love, consciousness, and awareness. How did we react? As expected, it was part of the plan. We reacted with fear. And that is the beauty, as the Earth knows and loves us unconditionally even after all the abuse she has been inflicted for centuries. Our reaction was part of the gift. In our fear, humans acted to self-preserve. Without planning, we temporarily saved our home, our planet, our Earth. During this pandemic, our planet has been able to breathe, regenerate, and rest. The most surprising effects were observed in the first months when the whole human population was on lockdown. While humans were protecting their lives from the COVID-19 virus, the Earth conducted a massive cleanup and allowed other living organisms to enjoy the freedom of roaming this planet. In the shortest amount of time, the actions world leaders debated their countries could not take without sacrificing progress and human lifestyle were cosmetic and insignificant to Earth’s 2020 gift. While humans were confined to their homes, the Earth cleared the air and cleaned the waters. Last year, Earth Day’s coverage showcased this silver lining of the pandemic with astonishing before and after lockdown images and videos from around the world of plants and animals enjoying the clear skies and water.
Our planet is a living being yet we do not respect all the resources she provides. The planet is alive because she adjusts to the times and needs of all its inhabitants. She is our mother. She has immense love for all those who reside on this planet and holds a great responsibility. Therefore, she found the perfect present to start our best year — 2020: a virus named Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (i.e., COVID-19). In 2020, she gave us 20/20 vision as she showcased the beauty of our planet and its resources. And the plan has been so perfect that no human, business, country, or world organization would have been able to develop and execute this plan. No one would have supported it had it come from a human mind.
The Earth spoke and put humans on a WORLD TIME OUT. During this quarantine, it has been such a blessing to see the regeneration of the oceans, air, plants, flowers, and nature. Other species have been celebrating our TIME OUT and enjoying the space that they have always cohabitated with us. She has shown us that the impossible is possible. Our planet has shown us the way and inspired us to follow her lead.
It has been more than a year of this confinement, contemplation, and evaluation. Many humans are ready to return to normal as soon as possible. But consciously, can we return to living without consideration for our impact on the planet and all living plants and animals? What shall we do with this gift on the first anniversary of our HUMAN WORLD TIME OUT?
Humanity can take another path. This is the perfect opportunity to create a new normal, one in which we view ourselves not as owners of the Earth, its resources, and all living creatures that inhabit it. Instead, humans have the special invitation to humbly serve as stewards of the Earth and all the living beings which reside on this planet. Our planet has given us this special invitation and asked us to RSVP for the future of Earth. Will you accept this invitation? Will humanity transcend the story of its effect on this planet? Will we follow the Earth’s lead and regenerate the planet instead of destroying it?
Today, Earth Day, 22nd of April of 2021, take a moment to thank our Mother Earth. We are blessed to live on this planet with all of its abundant resources. Thank her for joining our space and awareness. Thank her for revealing our impact and providing a new vision. Listen to our planet and advocate for all its inhabitants. Give the Earth a seat at the negotiating table of the planet’s future. We, the shepherds and stewards of this beautiful and unique planet, have a duty for the survival of all life on this Earth.
